Being a Christian is about checking boxes of trying to be a “perfect” church kid. Or at least that’s what Gab thought. To him, faith was defined by activity and “doing all the right things.” That changed in a church camp in 2017 when an IVCF kuya helped him realize that no amount of effort could earn salvation; it is a gift of grace.
But knowing the Gospel was only the beginning. In 2023, Gab joined IVCF during his first semester at the Far Eastern University. He began learning about the community and the ministry in IVCF. A year later, he attended Kawayan Camp (KC) for intensive leadership training. He arrived with a willing heart; he left with a broken one.
“The Community Involvement experience at a juvenile prison broke me,” Gab shared. “Hearing those children sing about God’s love while behind bars gave me a burden for missions I couldn’t ignore. I saw that spiritual freedom is more real than physical freedom.”
KC didn’t just give Gab memories. It gave him a desire for missions. Through KC, God directed his eyes towards his university, giving him clarity and courage to live for Christ intentionally. Previously hesitant to share his faith, he returned to FEU with a “holy unrest,” leading Bible studies and discipling fellow Tamaraws.
The results are visible. This semester, after years of prayer and consistent student leadership, their chapter became an officially recognized organization at FEU. As the current Discipleship Head, Gab now walks alongside students who were once drifting, helping them find their way back to faith. It is far from his image of a perfect Christian. But in the grit of journeying with these students, Gab embraces his missionary role in the campus.
