Rae Ann once knew Kawayan Camp only through stories. After joining IVCF in 2017, she would often hear her ates and kuyas talk about KC with a kind of conviction that made it feel life-changing. Still, it felt out of reach. A one-month camp seemed too long, and she already knew her Nanay might not allow it.
Everything changed in 2019 when the camp became shorter. What once felt impossible became an open door. With both excitement and hesitation, Rae Ann said yes, unaware that this decision would reshape her faith.
Her first days in camp were far from easy. She struggled with asthma attacks that made her question if she could finish. With the help of her ates and kuyas, and through God’s sustaining grace, she pushed through. Completing the camp itself became her first lesson in dependence on Him.
The turning point came during their Community Involvement to the Badjaos. Living among them, fishing, and sharing the Word, Rae Ann encountered a humility that deeply moved her. Hearing the Badjaos call themselves the lowest among the low stirred in her a burden to share Jesus with those often unseen.
KC also transformed her understanding of service. Through chores and daily responsibilities, she realized that worship is not always seen on stage but lived out in quiet obedience.
Her inductive Bible study practicum became a personal struggle. She wrestled with doubt and fear, even crying in the process. Yet through it, she developed a hunger to know and faithfully teach God’s Word.
Looking back, Rae Ann shares, “Hindi na lang para sa sarili ko ang faith ko. KC taught me that following Jesus means carrying His heart for others.”
Today, as a teacher and IVCF Sower Chapter adviser, Rae Ann lives out that calling. What began as hesitation became a mission to share Christ, to one life at a time.
