“A Shared-Life” Dear praying friends
Blessings!
My mind keeps lingering on the challenge posted by my co-staff in Manila in an exposition in Acts 1:12-26. As I reflect on the passage, I continue to ask myself, how much can I give or am I giving at all? Does it hurt me? Is it sacrificially and sincerely done? Am I thinking of others? Does the real challenge of student work still costs me? Am I intending to give more than I have or what else can I give? The joy of being in a student work still fills my heart. I said to myself, “this is another exciting year of journeying with students; there will be new faces, personalities, and enthusiasm.”
As I invite new and former students to join the cause of student work, to rally in prayer for new faces, and to ask not only to pray for their classmates but also to bring them into the fellowship; my heart beats its strong desire to reach-out for other students, for more students. I know, there is always someone, waiting to ask not only for some sort of belongingness but seeking for genuine care and wanting to discover the true sense of life. It is still fresh, my wanting to disciple more students and to really journey with them. It gives me excitement and urgency to pray and pray and pray. The life between camps and big events address realities and push me to take risks. It also hopes for options to make and corners to turn. Sometimes it seems instinctively done but when I try to grasp the bigger picture, it was God’s. It is truly His.
My confidence is the Lord’s. My hope clings to Him. He is the one who will bring new enthusiastic young hearts. Now, it is a different picture, having a new staff (Tonee Agustin) as companion and new level of work load. Last July, I started meeting students in their campuses. I am assigned in two pioneering campuses (UP Baguio and University of Baguio-UB) and regional administrative work. I enjoy the fellowship, study and prayer time during Friday nights at IV Home. The variety of IV Home activities open opportunities and provide as venues for friendship evangelism. Though, I still struggle in keeping or looking after some admin concerns of IV Home, this ministry serves as an important venue not only for me but also for the dwellers and visitors for growth and learning. I enjoy cooking new recipes and discovering cheaper dishes for the students. I enjoy reading and studying, surely there is a lot to learn and to discover. My life in student work is also about sharing what I have and what I had known and will know of Him.
Thank you for journeying with me through reading my prayer letter. It would be great to hear also your own stories.
In His grace & mercy,
Ara
