Dr. Charlie Labarda, MD

Hopes and vision for IVCF:

IVCF ministry played a critical role in my formative years as a student during my university days, and even as a young graduate struggling to find my place in the “real” world of the post-EDSA generation. In this volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) world, the student and graduate ministry of IVCF is needed more than ever to provide a platform and even model an intentional community for discipleship and service. My hope for IVCF is that it will be able to integrate the sacramental nature of face-to-face communities with the ubiquitous virtual communities the younger generation is steeped in. That it will be able to provide a faithful response and articulate a prophetic voice for this generation.

Desired Contribution to IVCF, if elected:

IVCF Philippines in the next few years will be facing the realities of the long-term consequences of the pandemic, especially a mental health crisis. It’s my hope that my public health background will allow me to contribute to shape a relevant response from the IVCF community.

I hope and envisage that IVCF will continue to be fervent as a praying movement, faithful in the Lord Jesus Christ as disciples and disciple-makers, united in love as a spiritual family, and be good and trustworthy stewards of all God-given resources.

Desired Contribution to IVCF, if elected:

By God’s grace, I want to extend my help in developing the Board of Trustees so that they will stick together as a praying team, maintaining a biblical framework of humble governance, making God-honoring policies, upholding relationships anchored on Christ’s love, and following the kingdom path of faithful stewardship.
By His wisdom and strength, I want to assist the Trustees and staff and regional leaders in seeking and maintaining ministry partners, donors and advocates not merely to achieve sustainability but for all of these ‘called out ones’ to participate in God’s mission-work faithfully.
As I continue to depend on the Holy Spirit, specifically in the BOT context,  I seek to continue being an active part in discerning God’s direction for IVCF and in making decisions in the midst of our troubled times.

Moreover, I hope that our campus missionaries and staff will be better remunerated for the services they render to sustain the organization. And may all the members – including the students and especially graduates also look after the staff and their families’ welfare.

Desired Contribution to IVCF, if elected:

Even as an ordinary member of IVCF, I have been involved in training students to lead their fellow students to Christ and in pioneering IVCF chapters.
